Production period: 2 months (January 2026 to February 2026)
Background
Today, people increasingly rely on online platforms and social media to access and manage health information. In particular, 75 percent of individuals aged 18 to 34 use these platforms as their primary source of information. However, content related to women’s health is repeatedly classified as adult content and often faces restrictions such as ad blocking, hashtag bans, and post removals. In contrast, similar content about men’s health is less likely to receive the same level of restriction.
This invisible algorithm based censorship leads to shadow banning and self censorship, reinforcing stigma around women’s bodies. According to CensHERship Revealed, 95 percent of women’s health creators have experienced censorship, and more than half reported having to modify their language or images simply to maintain visibility.
Insight
Platforms often censor realistic depictions of the human body by classifying them as sexual content. However, nude art that clearly has educational or artistic value and no sexual intent tends to be relatively permitted. In other words, the issue is not the body itself, but how it is represented.
Idea
UncensHERship Gem, created through a collaboration between CensHERship and Gemini, is a service that helps women’s health creators and brands share important information online without facing censorship. Instead of using real body photographs, it uses curated nude artwork to bypass algorithmic moderation. It also collects data on censorship cases experienced by women’s sexual health brands and individuals, and provides optimized content tailored to the standards of each platform. In doing so, it preserves the message while restoring visibility.
